Buyer Decision Framework

Select a BESS by operating objective

Objective Relevant system Critical inputs
Peak shaving and tariff control C&I BESS Interval load data, peak target and tariff windows
Higher solar self-consumption Solar + BESS PV profile, daytime load and grid export limits
Fuel reduction at remote sites Diesel + BESS Genset ratings, minimum loading and duty cycle
Weak-grid, off-grid or resilience Microgrid & Backup Critical load, autonomy and source-transition logic

Reference capacities such as a 215kWh BESS or 1MWh battery energy storage system are useful starting points, but final selection must reconcile kW, usable kWh, C-rate, expected cycles, temperature, redundancy, grid requirements and control strategy. Read our commercial BESS sizing guide before issuing an RFQ.

Frequently asked questions

Is a 215kWh BESS suitable for every commercial site?

No. Suitability depends on peak power, required duration, usable capacity, daily cycling, grid conditions and the application objective. The load profile should be reviewed before selecting a cabinet size.

What data is needed for a BESS quotation?

Provide project location, application, load curve, required power and energy, PV and generator capacities, grid condition, backup duration, environmental conditions and project schedule.

Can Zevonexa support EPCs and system integrators?

Yes. We support project-based equipment supply, configuration discussions and technical-commercial documentation for legitimate civilian commercial and industrial projects.

Need a project-specific configuration?

Send your load profile, PV or generator capacity, required backup duration, grid condition and project location.

Configuration Guide

Which BESS configuration should you start with?

Starting point Typical use Key sizing inputs
215kWh BESS Modular C&I storage, peak shaving, solar self-consumption, backup Load profile, peak kW, backup duration, PV size
1MWh BESS Larger industrial, mining, solar-diesel and EPC projects Interval load data, PCS power, grid or generator plant, duty cycle
Microgrid & Backup Weak-grid, off-grid and critical-load applications Critical loads, outage profile, generator/PV resources, control logic

These are starting points, not fixed designs. Final BESS selection should reconcile power, usable energy, operating objective, redundancy, environmental conditions and the project interconnection boundary.

Technical Procurement Checkpoints

Define the operating duty before selecting equipment

A commercial battery energy storage system should be specified around the site operating objective, not only a nominal kWh figure. Two projects with the same energy capacity may require different PCS power, C-rate, usable depth of discharge, thermal design, protection coordination and EMS logic. A clear duty statement reduces quotation gaps and makes bids easier to compare.

1. Power duty

Confirm continuous kW, short-duration peak demand, motor-start requirements, grid-forming or grid-following operation and any overload duty expected from the PCS.

2. Usable energy

Define required discharge duration, usable state-of-charge window, reserve margin, expected degradation and whether capacity must remain available for backup events.

3. Integration boundary

Clarify whether the supply scope includes battery cabinets or containers, PCS, transformer, switchgear, EMS, monitoring, communications, commissioning support and documentation.

4. Site conditions

Provide ambient temperature, altitude, humidity, dust or corrosion exposure, installation space, grid voltage and frequency, local standards and delivery constraints.

Information required for a comparable BESS quotation

For EPCs and industrial buyers, the fastest route to a technically comparable proposal is a structured RFQ. At minimum, include the items below. Where interval data is not yet available, provide the best verified estimates and identify assumptions that still require site confirmation.

  • Project country, installation environment and target delivery schedule.
  • 15-minute or hourly load profile, peak demand and critical-load list.
  • Required PCS power in kW or MW and usable energy in kWh or MWh.
  • PV array, diesel-generator and grid capacities, including operating schedules.
  • Primary objective: peak shaving, solar shifting, fuel reduction, backup, weak-grid support or off-grid operation.
  • Required autonomy, daily cycles, reserve margin and expected project life.
  • Connection voltage, communication protocol, EMS responsibility and interconnection boundary.
  • Certification, testing, documentation, packaging and commissioning requirements.

Use the BESS sizing calculator for an initial screening estimate, review the 500kW/1MWh sizing example, or send the complete inputs through our RFQ form for engineering review.
