Match the BESS architecture to the operating problem

The application determines the design. A factory focused on demand-charge reduction needs accurate interval-load analysis and a power rating capable of clipping short peaks. A solar project must align battery duration, charging windows and export limits with the PV production curve. Diesel-hybrid and remote microgrid projects place greater emphasis on generator minimum loading, spinning reserve, black start, control hierarchy and fuel-displacement strategy.

Industrial buyers should define critical and non-critical loads, required autonomy, available fault level, environmental conditions, expansion plans and the party responsible for EMS integration. Procurement comparisons should use guaranteed usable energy at the stated operating conditions—not nominal nameplate capacity alone.

For project screening, start with the commercial BESS sizing guide, review the buyer guides, then send the site data through the Contact / RFQ page.

Choosing the right BESS application architecture

The same battery capacity can perform very differently depending on the application. Commercial and industrial sites may prioritize peak demand reduction, solar self-consumption or backup power, while remote projects may need coordinated control between battery storage, solar PV and diesel generation. The correct architecture starts with the operating objective rather than a catalogue product size.

C&I, solar and backup applications

For factories and commercial facilities, review the C&I BESS and Solar + BESS pages. Key inputs include tariff structure, demand peaks, PV generation profile, outage frequency, transformer constraints and the loads that must remain online during a grid interruption.

Diesel hybrid, mining and remote industrial applications

For weak-grid or off-grid sites, battery storage can be coordinated with generators to reduce inefficient low-load operation, absorb fast load changes and provide reserve power. See Diesel + BESS, Mining Hybrid Power and Microgrid & Backup for the design inputs that matter most.

What information should be collected before sizing?

Collect interval load data, large motor or transient loads, generator ratings, PV capacity, grid availability, target backup duration, environmental conditions and communications requirements. These inputs determine the required PCS power, usable battery energy, reserve margin and control strategy. Once the operating case is clear, the product configuration can be selected with much less risk of over-sizing or under-sizing.
